How to attend “Austin City Limits” tapings

Here’s your chance to see your favorite artist for free and be on television.

The Austin City Limits stage has instruments and microphones on it, with large cameras reaching over filming the stage and the crowd in front of it.

Did you know “Austin City Limits” is the longest-running music program in television history?

Picture this — it’s a Tuesday evening in July, and a lengthy line of eager fans are stretched down Willie Nelson Boulevard in hopes of seeing Gracie Abrams’ “Austin City Limits” debut.

Many entered and won a giveaway, granting them two tickets to the pit. Some ticket-less hopefuls stood outside the venue for hours. Most of them saw the show.

Sound like a familiar scene? That’s because “Austin City Limits” is celebrating its 50th season this year, and tickets to the tapings are always free. Here’s how to get them:

  • Enter the lottery. Bookmark this page and check it regularly to be among the first to know when giveaways launch.
  • Become part of Friends of Austin City Limits. Support the Austin PBS program with a donation in exchange for season tickets.
  • Simply show up. Before showtime, empty seats are filled by people without tickets.
