Electric Gravy heats up Austin’s dining scene

Enjoy bold cocktails, spice-forward bites, and desi beats at this new east Austin hot spot opening Thursday, March 27.

A table filled with Indian-inspired dishes is displayed on a dark wooden table against a tufted leather couch. The spread includes bowls of butter chicken garnished with cilantro, saag paneer with spinach and cheese, spiced lamb curry, and crispy fried cauliflower bites with dipping sauce. Additionally, there are skewers of grilled paneer with lemon wedges, naan bread with charred edges, a bowl of steamed white rice, and a fresh salad with colorful vegetables. The dishes are presented in metal serving bowls with decorative brass handles.

Austin foodies will soon be able to transport their taste buds to Mumbai when Electric Gravy, a new bar-forward restaurant from the team behind Old Thousand, opens its doors on Thursday, March 27 on East 11th Street.

Helmed by Chef Brendan Nomura, the kitchen will focus on Indian flavors with a Texas twist, serving up dishes like curry queso, tikki masala, vindaloo, electric poutine and fried chicken, plus desserts like basmati rice krispies and sweet chaat.

Alongside an extensive beer and wine list, the cocktail program aims to wow patrons with sips like the Mumbai 75, the frozen Lassi Painkiller, and the Pudina Pani Marg.

A cozy lounge area bathed in natural light features a vintage-inspired aesthetic. A mustard-yellow sofa with wooden trim is adorned with black and gold accent pillows. A round wooden side table holds a glass lamp with a beige shade and an antique rotary phone. A small upholstered stool with ornate detailing sits nearby. Floor-to-ceiling sheer curtains diffuse sunlight, and decorative ceiling tiles add texture above. In the background, additional seating includes tufted armchairs, a leather ottoman, and potted plants.

Cozy up for conversations over spice-forward dishes.
