Lovers of the fall season, rejoice — chilly weather is coming to Austin this week.

Whether you’re taking advantage of the first cool days of the season or stocking up on ideas for later this month, here are six ways to enjoy the autumn weather, even in the seventh hottest city in the US.

Cheer your heart out. Rep. your burnt orange at a UT football game, or take time for some local high school Friday Night Lights and watch Westlake play Lake Travis next week in the state playoffs.

Tune into an outdoor concert. There’s a concert almost every night in the Capital City, and making time for a show outdoors at venues such as the Gruene Hall or Stubb’s will make for the perfect fall evening. (Pro tip: Check out upcoming concerts in this roundup of must-do November events.)

Go for a walk along Lady Bird Lake. When the days aren’t 100º, it’s the perfect time to enjoy being outside in Austin. Soak in views of the city’s skyline along the 10-mile Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail.

Peep some fall colors. Austin isn’t all Cedar trees and Live Oaks — there’s plenty of beautiful fall foliage in the Hill Country. See it in all its glory at Lost Maples State Natural Area or McKinney Falls State Park.

Try Austin’s most creative fall flavors. Sip on pecan praline lattes from Thunderbird Coffee, ‘Sweater Weather’ cold brews from Jo’s Coffee or stop by Austin Eastciders.

Start Christmas early at Lala’s. You can start getting into the holiday spiritwe won’t judge. Stop by Lala’s, Austin’s famed year-round Christmas bar, for “jolly hour” and a hot toddy, and you’ll be hearing sleigh bells in no time.

If you’re hoping to take advantage of the cool weather, you might want to move quickly. Austin temperatures are set to be back in the 70s by Sunday.
