It may not feel like fall in Austin yet, but Oktoberfest is right around the corner. The autumn festival celebrating German culture and beer runs Saturday, Sept. 21 through Sunday, Oct. 6.
Here’s how you can participate at local breweries.
Seasonal brews
Festbier, Meanwhile Brewing Co. | Inspired by the beer at Oktoberfest celebrations in Germany, this pour is crisp with undertones of honey and toast.
Montecore Oktoberfest, Austin Beerworks | Stop by the taproom to try this traditional beer that blends malty sweetness and floral German hops.
Bobtoberfest Classic Märzen, Blue Owl Brewing | Available at the brewery and in stores, this rich amber malt has a German lager finish.
Katie’s Pride, Lazarus Brewing Co. | Described as a bright, Oktoberfest-style Märzen, this brew launches on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Oktoberfest eats
Central Machine Works | Saturday, Sept. 21-Sunday, Oct. 6 | Sip one-liter beer steins (which come with a shot of Jägermeister) while munching on brats and schnitzel. Don’t miss events like yodeling competitions + the brewery’s first-ever annual keg toss.
Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden | Thursday, Sept. 26-Saturday, Sept. 28 | Taste Oktoberfest brews from Germany and snack on schnitzel sausage, Schweinebraten, and German potato cake. Plus, there’s a full lineup of events... even on-site tattooing of the Banger’s boot.
Where to don your dirndl
Live Oak Brewing | Friday, Sept. 20-Sunday, Sept. 22 | Times vary | The brewery’s 27th annual OAKtoberfest event is packed with live music, markets, stein hoisting, and German eats.
St. Elmo Brewing - South | Saturday, Sept. 28 | 12-8 p.m. | Dance to live music by Austin Polka Band, indulge in German-inspired food menus, and watch a stein hoist competition.
