Tomorrow marks 201 years of Mexico’s independence from Spain + the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month. Many Austinites are celebrating, so here’s how you can join:

Friday

  • Latino Art WKND: Somos Libres | Fri., Sept. 16-Sun. Sept. 18 | Times Vary| Distribution Hall | $15+ | This three-day party is a celebration of people, places, and practices of the Latin American diaspora. Enjoy art exhibits, a makers market, local food, and live music.
  • Free tacos for Mexican Independence Day | Fri., Sept. 16 | 5-10 p.m.| Hotel Vegas | Free until 9 p.m. | Spend your Friday dancing the night away with DJ Ulovei, a specialty cocktail menu, and live music from Los Alcos.

Saturday

  • Viva México: A Quinceneara! | Sat., Sept. 17 | 6-10 p.m. | Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center | Free | The 15th annual celebration of Austin’s Mexican, Latino, and Tejano community will include live music, dance, art , and a mercado by Frida Friday ATX .
