HISTORY

The past meets the present

This antique shop has been in the Austin community since the 1950s. | Photo via @atx_barrio_archive

Were you in Austin in 1954? If so, you might remember Tannie and Theresa’s Antiques, which was located at 1122 Red River St.

Originally opened by Theresa Hardeman + her first husband Tannie Mays, this antique shop was located where Waterloo Park is now situated.

After getting demolished in 1973 as part of the Brackenridge Urban Renewal Project, the business moved to 911 E. 6th St., which is currently the home of the family-owned Johnnies Antiques store.
